Cryotherapy - Gigi Hadid's pre-Victoria's Secret prep!

Forgot the sauna, the next extreme temperature to endure in the name of beauty is ice cold! A part of elite sports star regimes, celebrities and Park Avenue princesses, cryotherapy involves locking your body in freezing temperatures to stimulate blood circulation.

According to Karl Benn, manager of the Cryolab in Sydney, Australia, after just one treatment a patient’s white blood cells increase four-fold and they’ll have burned hundreds of calories while inside the cryopod. Sounds easy?

This alternative health treatment originated in Japan, and is popular in Europe and the United States. The cryotherapy process involves exposure to cold, dry air for up to three minutes. Nitrogen gas chilled to below 150 degrees shocks the body by revving up blood circulation and stimulating the immune system.

In the weeks leading up to the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (which just took place today), a little out-of-the-box beauty prep is to be expected. Gigi Hadid used cryotherapy as part of her preparation routine to ensure her body was looking it's absolute best.

"I did cryotherapy yesterday, which is freezing-cold, but it's really good for blood circulation. And, you know, after having two workouts a day for a week, it's really good for healing your muscles and feeling fresh and having good energy," she tells Refinery29 backstage.

"I did it once before, and my mom does it a lot. I wanted to do it before the show, and it’s great," Hadid says.

During the three-minute sessions, clients are placed in a 1.8m tubular machine pumping out air hovering between an icy minus 120 and minus 180 degrees Celcius. It’s the treatment du jour for people who want to boost their metabolism, loosen their muscles, flatten their stomachs, reduce cellulite and allegedly burn up to 3350 kilojoules without moving a muscle.

Science says these machines can reduce inflammation in the body but are not miracle calorie torches or a quick way to lose weight.

The cooling of the body has an anti-inflammatory benefit,” says Park Avenue plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Levine. “But cryotherapy as you’re talking about it, is akin to a medical fad,” he says, pointing fingers at the industry’s claims that a person can burn hundreds of calories during one speedy session.

“If there was a way to burn 800 calories in three minutes it would be a whole lot more popular than it is,” says Levine, “and a whole lot more than the $90 that they’re charging for it.”

Would you try it or have before?

Kesha's Eating Disorder Battle

Kesha revealed the pressure of her career began to lead to an eating disorder. "I convinced myself that being sick, being skinny, was part of my job," the pop star writes.

“I’ve had a lot of ups and downs,” she recently told Vogue in an interview. “It’s been quite a journey. [With the criticism about my body], I went to a dark place.”

As a teenager with a budding pop career, Kesha sought to be different by talking about sex and drinking but felt that gender stereotypes led people to believe she was a "train wreck" rather than a rock & roll star. That's when she gave in to outside pressures.

"The music industry has set unrealistic expectations for what a body is supposed to look like, and I started becoming overly critical of my own body because of that," she wrote in Elle. "I felt like people were always lurking, trying to take pictures of me with the intention of putting them up online or printing them in magazines and making me look terrible. I became scared to go in public, or even use the Internet. I may have been paranoid but I also saw and heard enough hateful things to fuel that paranoia."

“Slowly but surely my self esteem [started to] deteriorate,” she told Vogue magazine. Although she knew that she was harming her body by not eating, she admits, “The worse it got, the more positive feedback I was getting. Inside I was really unhappy, but outside, people were like, ‘Wow, you look great.’”

"I had been abusing my body," she wrote. "I just wasn't giving it the energy it needed to keep me healthy and strong." “There was a lot of not eating – and I started to think being hungry to the point of feeling almost faint was a positive thing."

Her mother told People.com that she watched her beautiful, self-confident, brilliant daughter be berated and ridiculed for her looks and weight to the point that she almost died. "The doctors told me her blood pressure and sodium levels were so low, they'd never seen it that low except with someone who'd had a heart attack or stroke. They said it was a miracle she hadn't already dropped dead on stage."

Shocking stories emerged of Kesha's management pressuring the star to immediately lose weight. Her mother recalled her manager saying, "You need to lose weight! I don't care what you do... Take drugs, not eat, stick your finger down your throat."

Although Kesha wrote songs like "We R Who We R" and "Warrior" that told people to love themselves, she felt like a phony. “I wanted to be genuine. But I was sad.” Upon finding the courage to accept that fact, the singer wrote that she decided to practice what she preaches.

I called my mom one night and I told her, ‘I need help.’ I went to an eating-disorder specific rehab site where a nutritionist taught me that food is a positive thing for your body,” she said. “I realized being healthy is the most important thing I can do for myself.”

In January of last year, Kesha checked herself into treatment for anorexia and bulimia. “I went to an eating-disorder specific rehab site where a nutritionist taught me that food is a positive thing for your body,” she says. "That first day at the treatment center was the scariest of my life," she wrote. For the first week, she barely spoke. "I was terrified and vulnerable."

The pop star spent two months in rehab and emerged feeling like she knew her self-worth and didn't have to worry about how others, including paparazzi, saw her. "I feel stronger now," she explained. "Strong enough to admit that I needed help and strong enough to have faced it head on.... Even I need to be reminded that we are who we are." Since her therapy, the singer admits she’s entering a new phase of self-love in her life and accepting herself.

“I’m trying to embrace the skin I’m in,” she said. “It’s difficult sometimes. Every day I have to look in the mirror and make the choice to be kind to myself. This is who I am – I have to love that.” “Part of being healthy is being positive,” she said. She doesn’t listen to the haters online, but instead tries to find peace in her life. “I run a few miles on the beach every day, and I got into Transcendental Meditation,” she told Vogue. [It reminds me] to be grateful for where I am, for my body, and my face – as imperfect as any of it may be.”

Moving forward, Kesha has transformed her look. She has removed the dollar sign from her name and lightened up on the makeup and glitter. It looks like the pop star is truly transforming inside and out. “I really wanted to make a change—be more raw and real,” she says.

Eat Like Beyonce in her 22-Day Vegan Meal Delivery Service

Beyonce and exercise physiologist Marco Borges announce their business partnership in 22 Days Nutrition and launches the 22 Days Nutrition plant-based home delivery meal service. The program's philosophy is based on the concept that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit and on the 22nd day you are well on your way to forming new habits.

The home delivery service was born out of a demand from Borges' friends, colleagues and clients who enjoyed his delicious meals that were naturally low in fat, sugar and salt and filled with flavour from whole-foods such as vegetables, beans, grains, herbs and spices.  The home delivery program takes away all the guesswork and makes it easy to adopt the plan.

"I am so grateful that I took the challenge and credit Marco with leading by example," says Beyonce.  "He is the most energetic person I know and it's all because of his decision to live a healthy lifestyle.  He came up with a great program to get people motivated to make better nutritional choices.  All you have to do is try.  If I can do it, anyone can.  I am excited to partner with him."

The longtime fitness expert, who has been a leader in the field for over 20 years, says it's really not about asking everyone to become a vegan but rather to make simple healthier food choices so they can live a more energetic and productive life.

"I am humbled by this incredible partnership and excited to share the many benefits of a whole-foods plant-based diet," says Borges.

Typical lunch meal
"We all know the importance and value of eating plant-based foods but often times find ourselves trapped in a series of bad habits that sabotage optimum wellness. The Vegan Meal Delivery program makes it easier to reset your habits with healthy and delicious plant-based foods."

The meals are 100% plant-based, made with organic ingredients, non-GMO, gluten free, soy free and dairy free and are delivered once a week. Fresh, never frozen dishes are lovingly made by professional plant-based chefs who are passionate about creating meals with the finest organic ingredients. Each meal is inspired by dishes from around the world so your taste buds never get tired of the same flavours. Check out the sample menu plans here.

Unfortunately for me, this service is only available in the US! In the meantime, I will be making this delicious vegan inspired by Beyonce's plan.

Curried Coconut Quinoa and Greens with Roasted Cauliflower

Author: Cookie and Kate
Recipe type: Main Cuisine: Indian
Prep time:  10 mins
Cook time:  30 mins
Total time:  40 mins
Serves: 4

Quinoa cooked in coconut milk with spicy Indian flavors, mixed with greens and topped with roasted cauliflower. A simple, vegan and gluten-free meal.

Ingredients:

Roasted Cauliflower

  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into bite-sized florets
  • 2 tablespoons melted coconut oil or olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Sea salt

Curried coconut quinoa with greens

  • 2 teaspoons melted coconut oil or olive oil
  • 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon curry powder of choice (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1 can (14 ounces) light coconut milk
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 cup quinoa, rinsed well in a fine mesh colander
  • ⅓ cup raisins
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 4 cups baby arugula or chopped chard, spinach, maybe even kale*
  • Optional garnishes: 2 green onions, chopped, and a sprinkle of red pepper flakes

Method:

  1. Roast the cauliflower: Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Toss the cauliflower florets with coconut oil, cayenne pepper and a light sprinkle of sea salt. Roast for 25 to 30 minutes on the middle rack, turning halfway, until the cauliflower is tender and golden on the edges.
  2. Cook the quinoa: In a large pot with a lid, warm the coconut oil over medium heat. Add the onion and cook until it is turning translucent, stirring often, about 5 minutes. Add the ginger, turmeric, curry powder and cardamom and stir until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Pour in the coconut milk, water, rinsed quinoa and raisins. Bring the mixture to a boil, then cover and reduce heat to a simmer. Cook for 15 minutes, then remove the pot from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  3. Fluff the quinoa with a fork. Stir in the salt, vinegar and greens (if you intend to eat this dish as leftovers, I recommend storing leafy greens separate from the quinoa, as the greens don't reheat well). Divide the quinoa into bowls and top with roasted cauliflower. Garnish with green onions and red pepper flakes if you'd like.

NOTES
Loosely inspired by the sweet potato wrap at The Mixx in Kansas City, which also inspired this quick roasted Brussels sprouts dish. If you like curried cauliflower with coconut, try this soup.
*Greens: I'm pretty sure chopped spinach or chard would work great in this recipe. If you'd like to try kale, remove the ribs first. To soften the chopped kale, you might want to sauté it in a little coconut oil or massage it first, like you would for a raw kale salad.
For added protein, mix in some cooked chickpeas or pre-steamed lentils. For what it's worth, though, I find this dish to be very filling as is.

Ellie Goulding On Why Strong Is The New Skinny

Showing off her athleticism, Ellie Goulding strikes a series of sporty poses for Nike's new campaign 'A Melody of Movement'. If you follow the popstar's Instagram, you would know she is a fitness fanatic and avid runner posting clips of her intense workouts and dedication in the gym. Goulding's work with Nike celebrates women's fitness and includes designing a 15-minute Nike+ Training Club exercise routine to modeling the new range of workout gear in gorgeous photos taken around the UK.

The new 15 minute N+TC App workout incorporates all of her favorite training moves, alternating metabolic drills with high and low intensity movement for a full body workout to help burn calories and keep you mentally and physically engaged.

The Nike 2015 campaign, Goulding displays her yoga moves

First and foremost, Goulding is a performer but fitness is one of her true passions. "For me, exercise is a crucial part of being alive. It’s like breathing,” she says.

Running in half marathons since she was in her teens, Goulding feels proud to support the movement of being strong and not skinny. "I like the fact that I can be that role model. I still think there's a little bit of work to do with promoting fit, not thin. But it's getting there."

If you watch Goulding perform, you will not only be grooving to her amazing vocals but be awed by
her stunts on stage supported by her fitness and love of entertaining. Likening the thrill of performing to the rush she gets when running, Goulding feels running and performing go hand-in-hand.

Goulding likes to vary her workouts to keep them fun and challenging, and to feel constantly inspired. "I think having a yin and yang with exercise is the important thing for me. I love to do high-intensity training, but I also love to take it easy. I say take it easy, but doing yoga is not easy," the pop star shares of her fitness routine. "Doing something different every day keeps things fresh, exciting, and interesting."

Another way to inspire you to get off the couch and try that new workout is the fun prints in neon and geometrics that feature in Goulding's Nike collection. As for her diet, Goulding is now a vegan and feels it helps keep her lean. Going vegan wasn't a huge leap for the former vegetarian except for curbing her cheese addiction. Admitting 'A cheese plate with fruit is my weakness!' Other tips the popstar gives to those wanting to live a healthy lifestyle is to stop worrying about the future and instead focus on staying positive and working hard allowing those efforts to guide you in the right direction. Considering the star's blooming career and stunning physique, I am inclined to agree!

The Khloe Kardashian Workout

Post-divorce, Khloe is channeling her energy into training hard to not only look amazing but feel fantastic on the inside. A high achiever, Khloe loves to work out hard in the gym to get results and give her mental clarity. Training with celebrity gym guru Gunnar Peterson, Khloe is a fan of high intensity work outs and circuit training to get her heart rate up and tone at the same time. The reality star holds physiques like Jennifer Lopez's body as her motivation and works towards an athletic shape.

Boxing is one of her favourite cardio methods with Gunnar noting Khloe's professional attitude to the game which gives her impressive technique, strength and power. The interactive part of boxing is what keep Khloe interested in the work out.

"I’m just so busy having fun, I forget that I’m working out; 45 minutes go by and I’m dripping wet. We do a lot of workouts together, my sisters and I, and we go on a lot of hikes and walks outside. I never like doing the same workout two days in a row, I just get bored."

Khloe (left) training with her sister

Khloe has been noticed at her LA gym on the daily, arriving as early as 5am. It's this type of dedication and perseverance that her coach Gunnar emphasises as a necessary part of training if you want to get results. Her focus isn't only for weight loss (although she has lost up to ten kilos), Khloe loves the confidence training gives her to tackle her day outside the gym.

Even when her time in the gym is restricted, she will make the most of her workout posting a picture of a 35 minute session where she burned over 500 calories citing 'a warrior moment'. To get her booty in shape, Khloe is a huge fan of squats, leg lifts, lunges and jumps.

“I’ve definitely become obsessed with working out! It’s funny, because my weight has always fluctuated — but recently so many people have been saying “you look so good, you’ve lost all this weight.” It’s actually been about a year and a half that I’ve been making a lifestyle change. There’s no quick fix, I would say.

As for her diet? Khloe is not as strict with her eating plan as her sisters, allowing herself to eat what she wants and not banning alcohol.

Khloe post training with her sister Kendall

“If I ate better, I would lose weight faster, but I don’t want to. I love food and there’s lots of family time with food and your friends. I work out really hard so I can have my champagne and that part of life. I’d rather take longer to lose weight, but have fun doing it.”

Gunnar's advice?

"Eat defensively. If you are going to an event, eat beforehand, so you can combat the finger foods and avoid temptation."

Ariana Grande's Vegan Diet and Fitness Regime

The cute little Pop Princess Ariana Grande has become a passionate vegan, preferring to eat fruit and vegetables over her furry friends. Ariana is quoted to 'love animals more than I love most people' and is a firm believer in eating a full plant-based, whole food diet that can expand your life length. Attributing the vegan lifestyle to actually making her happier, Ariana has left behind her Italian roots by saying goodbye to meats and cheese, joking that she has had enough in her young life to last her a lifetime. Although the singer admits her grandparents still have a heart attack when she turns down the meatballs at the dinner table.

Being a vegan can seem to confine you to a strict diet begging the question what does Ariana eat? Striving the eat organically from a young age, Ariana is no stranger to healthy eating but was quick to eliminate processed food and meat from her diet. She admits dining out can be tricky but sticks to what she knows by choosing vegetable and salad options. If the suitable meals are small, she tops up her intake with eating more when she gets home. On the run, she takes snacks like almonds and cashews to nibble and hydrates with coconut water. In support of her commitment to veganism, Peta sent her a bunch of recipes to get started on the vegan lifestyle.

A vibrant and active performer, Ariana's main form of exercise is dancing, often in 5-inch heels! On her downtime, the singer loves to hike, jumps of the elliptical trainer and always fits in some daily meditation. With an incredible busy schedule of performing, rehearsing, recording, and photo shoots, Ariana credits meditation to helping keep her grounded.

What Ariana thinks is the most important factor in feeling good is building a solid self esteem foundation. The singer believes there are 'too many girls who don’t like themselves' and she urges her fans to look deep down within yourself to find what defines you, the beautiful and unique qualities of you. Ariana stresses that hair and makeup, nice clothes, and photoshopping don’t make a person beautiful.

Renee Somerfield Diet and Fitness Routine + Vegan Fitness Model Meal Plan

Apart from being super gorgeous, Renee Somerfield always seems genuinely happy and bright, with her positive energy oozing from every sexy shot she posts on Instagram. Her insane looks have attracted lots of attention from admirers, including plenty of girls crowning her as their ultimate fitspo. While Renee is a devoted vegan and stays active, she does admit she's "definitely always been skinny."

She reveals, "My physique is naturally very petite and I am quite tall (5’10). Growing up, this felt very awkward but I have grown to love and embrace my body! I work hard to keep my body looking healthy and fit, which means eating 6+ times a day and working out with resistance and weights to make sure I maintain lean muscle… I don’t like looking too skinny!"

A passionate vegan (for over five years), Renee finds it easy to eat healthy as she tried to keep her food the way mother nature intended avoiding animal products such as meat and dairy and following a plant-based diet. A typical day would include organic muesli, fruit, salad on rye bread or organic muesli, veggie pattie burgers, and wholegrain pastas. For more ideas on how to eat vegan, check out Renee's fellow fitness model and bestie Sheridyn Fisher's daily meal plan.

Enjoying her food, Renee loves to cook and uses a vegan cook book to make Thai dishes with veggies & tofu, tacos or burritos with beans and chilli (she touts herself the burrito queen), baked veggies with hummus or vegetable soup with beans and pasta. When eating out, Renee finds it easy to spot a healthy option on the menu or asks for her food to be prepared adjusting to her vegan diet. She also isn't afraid to treat herself in a healthy way like her fave dessert of chocolate soy ice cream or the occasional cocktail.

To stay lean and toned, Renee keeps moving and focuses on being strong and not skinny. Despite her diet and fitness routine, she stresses "Confidence comes from how you feel." Eating well comes from a belief to nourish her body with healthy, natural and nutrient-rich foods. Renee also think her positive mind set helps to maintain her desire to stay fit, keep her skin glowing and nail and hair strong. Giving her body love and respect is why Renee eats well and stays active, avoiding alcohol, processed foods, caffeine and getting adequate sleep.

Considering her crazy busy schedule, which includes doing two shoots a day in all different environments, Renee has plenty of energy and enjoys shooting outside, especially on beaches or exotic locations. Her bubbly and gracious personality sees her hired again and again, and those stunning looks help merchandise to fly off the shelves. Her instagram account alone has 750 000 followers and counting. A couple of selfies have fans going gaga over her amazing body and vivacious looks. This isn't by accident either as Renee tailors what she posts to create a specific image which the media has quickly picked up on calling her one of the best in the 'sexy selfie' game.

Renee agrees, "It's all about the content, I share what I'm doing everyday and that's usually in a bikini," she says. "As I've turned my Instagram and social media into a business, I make sure the content will benefit that."

Well the girl knows what sells!

Other than her strong sense of business and work ethic, one of Renee's top priorities is staying active. When it comes to spending time in the gym, Renee much prefers staying active outside to keep her workouts fun and outdoors. Her favourite ways to exercise are through long distance running, walking her dogs, sand dune sprints and Pilates with weights. It's no surprise as a passionate vegan, Renee is a big animal lover and her dogs often feature on her Instagram and once you see the size of one of them, you will imagine it keeps her running around! She also keep handy equipment on the go with her, like resistance band which allows her to exercise in hotel rooms.

Renee advises, "If you loathe going to the gym (like me!) then try an outdoor class, swap the treadmill for the sand or go for a bike ride with a friend. Working out is meant to be fun, not a chore!" A healthy lifestyle is a year-long habit for Renee who doesn't do any emergency dieting or extra training before a shoot.

"I believe in a healthy lifestyle, not a quick-fix diet. Making sure I am eating clean and moving my body ensures I am always bikini ready!"

DIY Frank Coffee Body Scrub *Cellulite Busting and Skin Renewing*

Regulars on Instagram have probably seen a few perfect derrières cited as being buffed by Frank. Frank is a body scrub containing ground coffee which can boost circulation and help to eliminate cellulite. Coffee is also a natural exfoliant, and when added with coconut oil for hydration and orange oil for an invigorating aroma, you get a scrub that will have you cancelling plans to stay home and have a pampering session.

You can make a body scrub from the most simple household items, just be remembering the ration of one part oil and one part exfoliant. A course salt or sugar acts as a great skin scrubber, especially when added with ground coffee. I like to use coconut oil as the moisture component, but any other pantry oil will work. For perfume, pop in whatever essential oils you like but I find orange or vanilla work best with the coffee. Store in a jar and indulge yourself on the regular.

DIY Frank Coffee Body Scrub

Ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup of ground coffee
  • 1/2 cup of raw sugar
  • 1 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon of orange essence

'The Face' Model's Share Their Healthy Living Lifestyles

The latest 'search for a supermodel' TV show, The Face, brings together successful model to act as mentors to the young hopefuls. As I shudder at the thought of being 'mentored' by Naomi, aka the dictator, I can't help but notice the 41-year-old looks amazing. Not to be outdone, Naomi's Aussie-model co-stars, Cheyenne Tozzi and Nicole Trunfio are equally stunning and manage to exercise a little more empathy for their chosen teams.

One of my favourite parts of the show is watching the models strut into the room at the beginning on a scene when I can girl-crush their make up and outfits. I've already bought a Camilla and Marc dress that stole the show for me when Nicole wore it casually to jump around on a trampoline.

It's not surprising that all three models are wellness gurus, although I suspect that good genes is strongly at play with the beauties. Read on to learn a bit about each model's healthy living lifestyle and their tips to staying fit on-the-go.

Naomi Campbell

As an iconic beauty and seemingly-ageless supermodel, Naomi Campbell advocates healthy living in a bid to 'prevent, preserve and maintain'. Ignoring the fact that this somewhat creepy statement conjures images of Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep in Death Becomes Her, I'm pretty sure Naomi is referring to her healthy lifestyle.

Briefly entertaining a vegetarian diet, Naomi eats what her body craves which is foods that make her feel 'light' and nourished.

"I like to eat something that I can eat as much as I want and know it’s not going to make me feel like passing out. It really is ‘you are what you eat.’ It’s basically that simple,” shares Naomi.

Her on-screen antics on The Face scare me silly, especially when she screams at her petrified team of hopeful models (of which she mentors). Her hard leadership style makes it no surprise that Naomi loves to practice intense yoga. While yoga can be meditative, the supermodel leans towards a practice that  Like many wellness devotees, Naomi starts her day with hot water and lemon, before heading off to her beloved yoga class.

“I can’t do a headstand if I’ve had food in my stomach or I feel awful. It’s just you want to feel your best, you want to get the best energy out of your day,” observes the model. I can imagine doing a headstand after a green smoothie could have disastrous results.

Acknowledging that genes do play a role in her ageless beauty, Naomi understands the reality of growing old and is committed to doing so with grace, which must be easier when you are still wrinkle free in your forties. Nevertheless, her ability to keep pace and compete with fresh-faced waifs who are decades her junior will have me skipping off to yoga this week in an effort to follow suit. Although I certainly won't be relying on it for anger management...

Cheyenne Tozzi

Aussie-model and ultimate beach babe, Cheyenne Tozzi, has been gracing the covers of magazines since she was a teenager. Her natural beauty and tanned toned body has been catching everyone's attention on FOX8's 'The Face', a reality contest for finding a up-and-coming model. She's also my favourite, shhh, and not just because she has liked my Instagram pictures!

Naturally we want to know Cheyenne's philosophy on food and fitness, and how she balances healthy living with her busy schedule. Training with her fitness trainer three times a week for intense body conditioning, Cheyenne also favours exercising outdoors, doing watersports like paddle boarding (which is actually not as tricky as it looks). On-the-go, the model will hit the hotel gym and follow a program set by her trainer or do a short routine in her hotel room to get the blood pumping. Her favourite exercise? "Squats, squats, squats!"

An advocate of eating in moderation, Cheyenne loves food but fresh clean eats, like fish and veggies, not anything out of the packet. She makes one exception though, her secret love for Sara Lee Sticky Date Pudding occasionally needs to be satisfied! You know the one, in the freezer section, next to their equally delicious banana cake.... mmm.

Back to the healthy stuff... apart from the occasional treat, the gorgeous model eats like you would expect. “I always start with a glass of warm water with lemon; it's really good to get your body going. I'm not really a breakfast person, but I'll blend up a juice with kale and apples, nuts and berries or whatever is in the house. Today my mum made a beautiful goat's cheese caprese salad with tomatoes for lunch.

"Tonight I might have some fish and vegetables. I don't really snack. I might have a pear or an apple, I'll have a cup of coffee, but I don't graze. I prefer to eat at meal times. I'm Italian that way; a meal is like a feature film. My favourite meal is grilled salmon with mango, red onion, coriander and tomato chopped up all tiny and placed on top of the fish like bruschetta. It's so yummy.”

Nicole Trunfio

Stunning Nicole Trunfio, another hot Aussie model, steals the show when the camera sets eyes on the natural beauty. Another star of The Face, Nicole is a frequenter on designer catwalks around the world and often graces the pages of Vogue. Sharing the stage with Naomi and Cheyenne, Nicole holds her own both on and off the set.

She too has a passion for healthy living and staying fit. She exercises with her trainer three times a week to keep her killer legs lithe and takes every opportunity to move her body, using the stairs and walking as much as she can.

"Even if it's just half an hour, just doing it (exercise) is really important in keeping your body young and tight," says Nicole.

Growing up in an Italian family (much like Cheyenne did), Nicole has a passion for food and admits keeping her petite figure came naturally.

"I have always been balanced with my eating, I have good genes and haven’t ever had an issue with weight. I grew up in an Italian family so there was lots of pasta and carbs. I eat heathy, unhealthy 50/50," shares Nicole.

A big fan a green juices, Nicole now follows a clean eating regime, favouring salads and small protein serves. She recently underwent a detox during the filming of The Face, having her meals designed by her naturopath, whom she credits to changing her life and helping her feel better internally and externally.

The mind is as important to the model as her physical health. Swearing by sleep, 'it's so good for your body', Nicole also notes the importance of loving yourself.

"I think putting yourself first will cultivate the self-respect and nuturing you need to stay on top of your game. Once you start making a habit of that you can give so much more to others."

Samantha Faiers Weight Loss due to Crohn's Disease

In the past six weeks, Samantha Faiers (star of reality show The Only Way is Essex and recently on Big Brother) has lost over 10 kilograms during a mystery illness. Her inexplicable weight loss and ill health has now been diagnosed as Crohn's Disease, a type of inflammatory bowel disease which is thought to arise from abnormalities in the body's immune system.

Crohn's Disease is a long-term illness that requires constant management through medication and symptom monitoring. A patient will have periods of remission when the disease is not active but during times of aggravation, the patient could experience abdominal pain, weight loss, skin problems, joint pain and fatigue.

The disease can cause serious repercussions to the body but can be difficult to diagnose as the symptoms can mimic those of other bowel disorders. Before Samantha was diagnosed, she was unsure what was causing what she described as the 'sickest she has ever been in her life'.

“My immune system is down so I’m picking up every bug going. My bowels are swollen and so are my intestines. I just couldn’t keep my food down. It was horrible. I lost all the muscle definition in my stomach.”

The 23-year-old will now need to manage her health to ensure she recovers from the aggravated disease. Starting a liquid only diet to allow her bowels to heal, Samantha will need to tailor her diet to the disease.

Daily Mail quoted a source as saying, "at the moment, she is just trying to cope with the excruciating stomach cramps. That has been the most difficult thing. Now, she is working with her gastroenterologist to see if she can work around her illness."

Renowned for her gorgeous curves, the blonde beauty is keen to regain some weight once her health is recovered and does not want women to aspire to her new look. Losing weight due to a severe illness should not be aspirational and a healthy body and mind is and should be your number one priority.

Demi Lovato Opens Up on her Destructive Eating Disorder

Shining the spotlight on the destructive and frightening world of an eating disorder, Demi Lovato has shared her experience in the damaging disorder, which started before she was a teenager. Becoming a poster child for eating disorder recovery, Demi has bravely shared the intimate secrets of her own journey and path to wellness.

"It was always there, but then I just acted on it at around 8 or 9 years old. I started overeating, compulsively overeating. I would bake cookies and then eat the whole pan. I went from doing that to being unhappy with my body. I went to just completely starving myself and that turned into throwing up and starving myself and it was just this crazy battle going on inside of me," she said.

Lovato, who recalls always wanting to be "very thin," faced torment in school. She said words "played more of a toll on me than if I was physically abused in school. I've always said I wished that they had just hit me in the face and gotten it over with because what they said to me sticks to me to this day and it affected me, (turned) me into the person I am today. I was bullied and they called me fat and they called me horrible things."

Geordie Shore's Vicky Loses the Party Girl Weight

Following another six-week stint of filming the MTV's Geordie Shore, reality star Vicky Pattison had reached up to 70 kilos after indulging in takeaway and alcohol every night. Admitting she could gain up to 7 kilos each season taping, Vicky had lost her self confidence

"When I am at my heaviest I just don’t feel confident at all. I have all these sexy clothes and I don’t feel like wearing any of them at all."

After a series of unflattering photos were published, Vicky decided to change her unhealthy lifestyle. Dropping from a size 16 to a size 8 in just two months, Vicky cut out alcohol and saturated fat to reshape her body.

Feeling energetic and positive, Vicky is proud of herself and find exercise quite therapeutic. Despite her weight loss triumph, Vicki admits the lifestyle change has been a struggle. ‘It’s a struggle maintaining this body, let alone thinking about losing more weight. It’s a nightmare.’ A confessed carb-lover, she does miss bread and pasta but knows that no one is perfect. She stays motivated by keeping her goal weight as her incentive.

"All I remember is how badly I felt when I couldn't fit in to any of my clothes. I just remember that when I feel like giving up."

The party lifestyle had taken its toll on the 25-year-old

Booze binges have now been swapped for peppermint tea and outdoor workouts. For breakfast, the newly-fit star will have porridge and fresh fruit, spinach and eggwhite omlette or protein pancakes. Lunch will be a salad with lean meat, followed by grilled fish and vegetables for dinner.

Vicky is adamant this lifestyle change will be permanent, saying 'I am a healthy, strong young girl, and I still have a bit more to lose.'

Taking to Twitter, Vicky thanked her fans for the support.

"Can't believe how sweet everyone is being about my weight loss! Thank you - still got work to do but I'm getting there!"

That Twitter pic
After a highly publicized and scrutinized pregnancy, Kim Kardashian has worked hard to regain her fitness and body confidence. Following a strict Atkins Diet program, Kim lost 43 of the 50 pounds she gained while pregnant with baby North. Regular exercise and breast feeding has also helped the reality star to downsize within a few months.

The Akins Diet focuses on consuming a high protein diet with limited carbohydrates, which shifts your body into fat burning mode and revs up your metabolism. Popular 10 years ago, the Atkins Diet has been criticized for its high in fat and cholesterol meal plans, which could negatively affect heart health.

Kristen Bell Talks Body After Baby

Kristen Bell has ticked off two major milestones this year; giving birth to her daughter, Lincoln and marrying her baby daddy, Dax Shepard. During such an exciting time in Kristen's life, including returning to movie making, the actress has put returning to her pre-baby body on the back burner. Recognising the mental stress and pressure on women to bounce back into shape, Kristen is filtering out negativity and keeping her focus on her new family.

"The secret to body after baby is flushing down the toilet every notion of body after baby. Honestly!...I made a commitment to not allow my narrative for the year after having a baby to be about my weight. And I think that freed me up and it made me less concerned with all the pressures that revolve around body image. I was like, 'I have a baby. Do you know how awesome that is? It's so radical! Why on earth am I going to be so concerned with my pants size?'"

Brooke Burke's butt workout and morning shake recipe

Brooke Burke sits firmly in place as one of my all-time-favourite fitness inspirations. She takes such good care of her body and it shows in her amazing shape and glowing skin. The 40-year-old takes her fitness seriously and I always look to her for new tips on toning, especially for the butt. While Brooke has released a workout DVD, which I plan to add to my collection, you can find some excellent express exercises to do at home by looking on you tube. I've posted my particular favourite video below, which is a butt burning series of moves that will really tone up your trouble areas.

Brooke's breakfast contains a shake of coconut water, berries, 1 scoop of protein powder, omega oils and some kale. She blends this together every morning for a great breakfast on-the-go and she also credits this combination to keeping her skin fresh and her body lean.

For more workout tips from the actress and model, check out Fitness Magazine's list of Brooke's favourite gym exercises.

Should you use coconut oil in your cooking and baking?

I keep seeing coconut oil popping up in clean eating recipes, used as a substitute for butter or regular oils. I first heard about coconut oil through reading Miranda Kerr's eating regime that includes regular doses of the oil; Miranda is a devoted fan of coconut oil valuing it's health benefits for the body inside and out. Her love for this type of oil was criticized by health experts who have warned of the high saturated fat content in coconuts. But looking at Miranda's incredible body and glowing skin, I wondered who was right on this issue?

Firstly, coconut oil is about 90 percent saturated fat! That’s a much higher percentage than butter (about 64 percent saturated fat), beef fat (40 percent) or even lard (also 40 percent). Too much saturated fat in the diet is unhealthy because it raises “bad” LDL cholesterol levels, which increase the risk of heart disease. However, unlike other saturated fats, coconut oil doesn't have a negative effect on cholesterol levels and actually gives “good” HDL cholesterol a boost.

Plant-based oils are more than just fats, of course. Coconut oil, like other plant oils, also contains many antioxidants and other substances that may benefit your health. Coconuts are rich in lauric acid, which has very powerful anti-bacterial / anti-viral properties and is well known to support a healthy immune system and even facilitate brain function.

Here is six easy ways to add the benefits of coconut oil to your daily diet:

1 – Add a tablespoon of coconut oil to your favourite breakfast smoothie

2 – Add a tablespoon to buckwheat or quinoa porridge with a drop of stevia

3 – Use as a spread on your favourite gluten free crackers or bread

4 – Use coconut oil for your stir fries & curries – works wonderfully with Asian & Indian flavours

5 – Roast vegetables with coconut oil & sea salt

6 – Mix coconut oil with raw cacao powder and stevia for a delicious, healthy chocolate topping or dipping sauce

Funny girl Jenna Marbles reveals her diet and fitness secrets

Jenna Marbles is a you tube darling, renowned for her funny and candid views of 'a day in the life' of a modern female.

Jenna tells Shape.com about her diet and exercise regime:

I know you guys ask me all the time about my diet/exercise. I explained in a vlog a little while back that I try to keep a vegan diet 6 days a week and have a cheat day in there so I don’t go cray cray so that still hasn’t changed. But my workouts are always all over the place because I like to keep it new and different. I can’t just go into the gym, do my cardio, lift weights, and repeat every day until I die. That’s not fun to me.

I like to do different stuff and as I said in my diet/exercise video I usually love to do fitness on demand straight from the TV at my house. (I have Comcast, so it’s under OnDemand and then Fitness and there’s like a million billion things in there to keep you busy from your house). But this month I’m doing Bob Harper’s bikini workout from Shape Magazine and let me tell you, this jumpoff will make you break a sweat for sure.

You do all of the moves/reps as listed with no rest in between, then repeat the entire set for a second time 2-3 days a week. 4-5 times a week you get your cardio in, know what I mean? I love the Biggest Loser, so I thought I’d give my 2nd favorite trainer a shot (Jillian still reigns supreme, she’s got some killer DVD’s and workouts OnDemand for those of you that are interested).

Tryin to get my butt to look all tight and shit.

Check out the Shape.com workout from Bob Harper.

Body confidence taught from Mother Monster Lady Gaga who hits back at those calling her 'fat'

Ignoring her body bullies, Lady Gaga has held her head high and kept up her usual Gaga ways in wearing risqué fashion choices and looking damn proud while working it. Rumours are rife that Gaga has gained over 10 kilograms in the past six months, flaunting a noticeably curvier figure than her former waif-like self.

Looking thin in her Born This Way video

What is ironic is that Gaga looks like any normal girl walking down the street, she is cute, in shape and seems happy in her relationship. I am confused why this attracts negative attention? What should be negative is women suffering from eating disorders, which Gaga admits to falling victim to since she was 15 years old, including battling bulimia and anorexia.

I saw Gaga in concert a few months ago and I thought she looked positively tiny. She certainly could have gained weight without any problem considering she looked almost too thin. Although to me, if you want to be thin or curvier, I don't see why it is someone else's business to judge unless you are unhealthy or in need of help. Gaga agrees with this philosophy free of judgement and created the Born This Way Foundation to inspire bravery and a body revolution.

Gaga commented her boyfriend, gorgeous Taylor Kinney (pictured left) loves her body curvier.

Gaga wrote on her blog, 'When I eat and am healthy and not so worried about my looks. I'm happy. Happier then I've ever been. I am not going to go on a psycho-spree because of scrutiny. This is who I am. And I am proud at any size.'

The talented and beautiful superstar is obviously happy in love and content with herself, which is a exquisite feeling for any human being.

I love the gorgeous picture of them together below and the one underneath, where they played up a mock wedding for one of her videos.
